Trip to Gulmarg, Kashmir India
During our travel to India we thought we would enjoy a white Christmas at the Khyber resort in Gulmarg.
It was a spectacular sight once we reached our destination- soft powder snow to sink into and create snow angels and of course a snow ball fight - which our kids indulged in immediately and the beautiful mountain ranges and trees topped with snow like icing on a cake!
The kids were hungry after their snow fight so off to the lobby coffee shop for a nice hot meal.
We were astonished to find nothing on the menu suited our son. The food either contained or had traces of egg, nuts fish or seafood!
A simple Sandwich, chicken nuggets all were impossible for the kitchen to handle due to traces of eggs!
My son had a cup of tea and some Oreos we had packed then once we spoke to the food and beverage manager he promised the kitchen would do their best to come up with a suitable menu.
We actually carry our own spaghetti/ pasta/ noodles without eggs and explain the kitchen staff how to prepare my son's food, but they informed us they would make something delicious without triggering his allergies.
To our delight the chef prepared a steak with a simple gravy, it looked and tasted fantastic and my son enjoyed the first few bites then complained of a tummy ache, broke out in hives and said he wasn't feeling well.....that was the end our dinner!!
There was some unexplained cross contamination with the food so I would not recommend this resort to anyone with food allergies. The restaurant staff could not understand how cross contamination occurs and the seriousness of food allergies!!
A beautiful resort surrounded by the tranquility of snow capped mountains.
You could look outside and believe you were at the Alps in Switzerland however, it was not a safe environment for my son therefore a horrendous experience dealing with the kitchen staff!!
It was the first time he ever went skiing and we had a very special time as a family but...
my son ate steamed rice and steamed vegetables we could not trust the grill or pans it was impossible...meal after meal he had a tummy ache and his reactions just got worst...out with the antihistamines!!
